ABOUT THE ARTIST
JAMES WARREN HANLON is a Photo-Realist whose transcendental vision conveys the beauty, balance, and harmony of all things. His work has a notable quality of sublime serenity that gives the viewer a sudden, ecstatic moment into a peaceful, joyful, and connected world.
His Neo Mystical Surrealistic style is the culmination of a lifelong quest for the heart of humanity, and his artistic expression reflects the sacredness, perfection, and randomness of human experience.
Hanlon works in acrylics, oils, gouache, gold, silver, and copper leafing, and mixed media. With just three years of formal artistic training, James is a self-taught master of airbrush technique which utilizes up to 150 custom-made templates per painting to achieve shading, color and balance. His paintings combine airbrush with brushwork to achieve a subtle yet intense layering of colors, and his mixed media is executed supra-real, or surreal in a stylized form. He works from imagination, nature, photos, and still life.
James was born and raised in the northeast US - New York, New Jersey, and Maine. He has lived on Maui since the year 2000 and has been a part-time resident of Hawaii since 1989. He has traveled extensively in Europe, Africa, and Asia savoring both old and new world cultural perspectives and incorporating their flavor into his art.
He has over 35 years of professional experience in fine art, commercial art, and teaching design techniques at the university level at the Art Institute of Atlanta, the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale, and the New England School of Art and Design. He has exhibited his work worldwide.
Fine art originals are available as well as high-quality giclee reproductions in a variety of sizes. The artist also welcomes commissions transforming symbols from a client's life into lasting creative expression on canvas. The decorative wall murals and custom designs of JAMES WARREN HANLON feature trompe l'oeil and faux finishing techniques.
